Best Diet Approach To Cure Leaky Gut Syndrome

Thank for checking out my tutorial. We're goingto do a tutorial today on leaky gut. Basically, the best foods and diet to heal a leaky gut.As you're probably aware, I've done quite a few tutorials on this channel. I've been aroundfor a while now. This is my 27th year of practice. I've been seeing patients an awfully longtime, and I've seen every diet you can imagine. Just look behind me and look at all the bookshelves.I've gotten a few comments on how bent my bookshelves are. I made those when I was astudent, quite a long time ago now. I've got thousands of books. In fact, I've got twobookshelves here, another bookshelf here, I've got three bookshelves out in the back, and I've got boxes out in the back with more

books that my wife won't allow me to havein my room because it looks too crappy, she says, for patients.Let's talk a little bit about books, for example, and diets. There are thousands of diet booksout there. I've seen so many of them. I've been collecting books on health really sincemy 20s. I've read lots of books and I've looked at lots of blog sites on the best kind offoods to eat for leaky gut. I can remember reading about the Paleo diet when people weren'teven around that started thinking the Paleo diet was like the quot;inquot; thing. There is a guycalled Chris Kresser online in America who's very big with this Paleo diet. I read thisbook here, Paleolithic Prescription in 1988,

before it even became a fad. It's all a fadnow. And this book here is pretty cool, Native Nutrition. Again another book from the 80sand 90s. I read all those books when I was in my 20s and started to realize people needto eat common sense, basic foods. It's not rocket science. You probably know this book, The Gaps Diet. Another good book from Liz Lipski, DigestiveWellness. A good Irish friend of mine, John McKenna, books on the stomach. NourishingTraditions from Sally Fallon. The list goes on and on. Everyone has got their own takeon what are the best foods to eat. And everyone who comes out with a book like The Body EcologyDiet, The Specific Carbohydrate Diet, the

blah, blah diet, the blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah diet. There are millions of diet books out there. What you've got to try to get through your mind is no diet is going to be specific foryou. So when you've got The Specific Carbohydrate Diet, why don't we call it The Specific JaneDiet, The Specific Joe Diet, or The Specific Mary Dieté In my writing and teaching, I'vealways maintained that there is no such bloody thing as one diet that suits hundreds of people. That's why I would never write a diet book as such myself. If you looked at my Candida Crusher book and also in my psoriasis program that I recentlylaunched, you'll find that I really emphasize

a point that I want you to try to find thefoods that best suit you as a human being, not me or Donna Gates or not Sally Fallonor not Natasha CampbellMcBride, not Chris Kresser, not all these other people. They'renot bloody gurus. They're just people who write about diets, and they give you options. They give you recipes, but you need to experiment with these things. Every person who buys thesebooks or who sees me who's been on a program, they always end up modifying those programsto suit themselves. Many people tell me that when they've gone, for example, on the BodyEcology Diet; they find they can eat certain foods that Donna Gates says that they shouldavoid. And it's the same thing when people

go on any other diet like the Gut and PsychologyDiet. I've had a patient recently who's been onthe SCD Diet, The Specific Carbohydrate Diet, for about four years hard out and not feelingbetter. So I got this guy and his wife and two children, they're all on the diet, tomake modifications. I said, quot;Look, it's time to introduce bread.quot; quot;Oh, no. I can't eatbread. On the SCD diet, it says it's toxic. It's poison.quot; But when I got his wife to eatsome bread, just flat bread, chipati kind of bread, she felt good. In fact, she gaineda bit of weight. She improved. And then after a couple of weeks of observing his wife doingthis, this gentlemen did the same, and he

What Is Leaky Gut Syndrome

Greetings. New Zealand naturopath, Eric Bakker, author of Candida Crusher and formulator of the Canxida range of dietary supplements. Thanks for checking out my tutorial today. We're going to talk about leaky gut syndrome. Whatit is. What causes it. What the signs and symptoms are and what the most effective naturaltreatment is. I'm going to read you an excerpt out of my book, Candida Crusher, just to familiarizeyou with what leaky gut syndrome is and then I'll expand on that a little bit.Leaky gut syndrome describes a condition of altered or damaged small bowel lining causedby antibiotics, toxins, poor diet, parasites, Candida yeast infection, stress, etc., whichcan lead to increased permeability of the

gut wall to toxins, microbes, undigested foodparticles, wastes or larger than normal macromolecules. These can be things like bits of pollen orbasically dead bacteria or yeast, all sorts of junk there. It has been estimated by experts that around 60 percent of your whole immune system islocated in your small intestine, and incredibly, a high percentage of this activity is concentratedin the first three inches of your duodenum. In a normal healthy person, the small bowelbehaves like a colander or a sieve allowing only the breakdown of the very finest moleculesof digestion into your bloodstream. A healthy membrane of the small intestine allows onlyvery small nutrients in fats, proteins and

starches, which are all broken down to extremelyfine particle size to enter into the bloodstream. While the larger molecules and many differenttypes of toxic compounds are kept out. So you can see it's a selective membrane. Thelast thing we want is for this membrane to be permeable and to allow junk coming throughthat could adversely affect our immune system on the other side. When the small intestine is affected by leaky gut syndrome, however, this process does notoccur. Tiny food particles bypass the cells that normally absorb them and slip in betweentiny intercellular junctions, which are created by the leaky gut and challenge the immunesystem on the other side. Let's examine this

in a little more detail. And then I go onand on and I explain a little bit about yeast infection and leaky gut syndrome. You canread a lot of these articles on yeastinfection if you want to have a look.In your intestinal tract, there reside microscopic microvilli. These are tiny finger like projectionsthat come off the lining of the small intestine with hair like small membrane extensions calledthe brush border. The microvilli serve as a major point of absorption of all your nutrientsin the body. A thin layer of mucous forms on this brush border in which beneficial bacteriathrive. And once this layer becomes compromised, the friendly bacteria reduce in number andthe bad guys, including many Candida species,

parasites, and bad bacteria, will have aneasy time colonizing this brush border. This brush border is also home to a circulatoryIGA. The major antibody in your digestive system. I go into great detail on CIGA, infact, in the book. I think there are about three pages all about high or low circulatoryIGA. I think you get the picture what leaky gutsyndrome really is. It's a condition that many of us in the western world face. It'snot uncommon. So if you're a person who is going to drink alcohol every now and then,if you're going to take an antibiotic, or eat food containing antibiotics, if you havestress in your life, or if you eat any kind

of processed food, then you will certainlyhave leaky gut syndrome to some degree. I hope this tutorial series I'm going to producenow will help you in your quest to overcome leaky gut syndrome. How To Test For Leaky Gut Syndrome

Greetings. New Zealand naturopath, Eric Bakker, author of Candida Crusher and formulator of the Canxida range of dietary supplements.I'm going to talk about how to test for leaky gut syndrome.A common test that is performed by many naturopaths is the lactulosemannitol test, so these aretwo sugars that are not really digested in the body. You basically take them in and passthem out. You drink a mixture of these two sugars, and the urine is collected for sixhours thereafter. Lactulose is the larger sugar and you shouldn't really pass that outthrough the urine. If you're going to pass that out, it means that you've got permeabilityof the small intestine. So that's one simple

way to find out if you've got leaky gut syndromeor not. Quite an impressive test to do. If you're interested in doing a test, you cancontact your naturopath or your health care provider to find out.Stool testing is another way I can really pick up leaky gut with patients by lookingat the bacteria, at the IGA, and many other different markers that will show me what typeof digestive function the patient has. And generally, most patients I see with chronicCandida have got leaky gut syndrome. Usually, I'll do the stool test up front and not worrytoo much about the leaky gut test. It's more important for me to get all thefacts pertaining to the case, and particularly

to get the bacterial balance right to seehow high their IGA is, if their immune system is upregulated or downregulated. Also, tosee what the amylase is, the pancreatic enzyme, we can pick up in the stool. And we can pickthe colon health up. We can look at what we call short chain fatty acids or products ofbacterial fermentation. We can see that in the stool results as well. The whole healthof the gut is important to me, not just the small intestine. But if you want to know if you have got leaky gut syndrome, just do the lactulose and mannitoltest. It's quite a simple test to do. Thanks for tuning in.
