Foods To Avoid On Leaky Gut Diet
Greetings. It's Eric Bakker, naturopath fromNew Zealand, author of Candida Crusher and formulator of a range of products called Canxida. Thanks for checking out this tutorial. I've got a question here from a guy on YouTube calledPro Chess Player. I think his name is Josh and Josh is asking me quot;Eric, can you pleasedo a tutorial on foods to avoid for Leaky Gut syndromeéquot; Josh, one thing you and I havegot in common. I think I've checked out your site. You love playing chess. So do I, butI keep getting beaten by my teenage son, which is really annoying for me. One thing I don'tget beaten by is questions for Candida, so we're going to address that right now. What are some foods to avoid with leaky guté
Well, I've just spent a little bit of timeon the internet looking at a lot of sites on leaky gut syndrome to get a feel for whatthe general consensus is out there. Here's quite a wellknown website from a very wellknown in America who will remain nameless and this is saying, quot;Foods that causeleaky gut, gluten, cow's products, sugar, unsprouted grains, and GMO.quot; Very true, ,but there are a lot of things that you're missing out on. I'm going to go into somedetail with this tutorial. Grains, I've got another site, in fact, I just went to Google and typedin foods to avoid with leaky gut, and the paleodiet came up. Grains, legumes, dairy, sugar, unhealthy oils, alcohol, caffeine,
excessive carbohydrate consumption. This isa bit closer to the mark. But when you've got leaky gut, basically,a good advice for you with foods to avoid in general is processed foods. Processed foods,in general. So when you go shopping, I've said this before in tutorials, if you do shopat a supermarket, buy your foods only from the outside perimeter. Meats, vegetables, perishable products because these are less likely to cause problems with leaky gut. Itis true that alcohol and caffeine do cause leaky gut. Alcohol, to me, is the top of thequot;noquot; tree when it comes to leaky gut. If you would say to me, quot; What food is most associatedwith leaky gutéquot; I would say alcohol.
What out of everything I know is associatedwith leaky gut is antibiotics. That's really the top of the biggest tree is antibioticsor all kinds of pharmaceutical medications, antiinflammatories, steroids, antidepressants, sleeping pills, any kind of a drug, for blocking stomach acid or reducing pain. All of thesedrugs are involved in leaky gut. Including Tylenol, paracetamol, any of these kind ofdrugs. Birth control pills, all involved with leaky gut. But antibiotics are the top ofthe tree. But when we look at foods and beverages, alcoholis right at the top, so don't even think about drinking alcohol if you're worried about leakygut. And even if your gut is healthy like
mine, drinking alcohol occasionally will predisposeyou to leaky gut. You will make your gut increasingly leaky by drinking. Every drink you take increasesyour likelihood of making the gut leakier and leakier. And then on top of that if youput antibiotics and high stress in there, you're a sitting duck for a serious leakygut problem. Grains, yes and no. I believe that most peoplecan tolerate small amounts of gluten in their diet when they're healthy like me. I don'teat bread or flour products. I much prefer to have brown rice in my diet and grains likequinoa or millet. But I do have a piece of bread every now and then and I really enjoya nice piece of toast with some tahini or
an organic peanut butter. And I really enjoythe taste, the texture, the smell, and I'm sure most people do. I would not eat a pieceof bread every single day with peanut butter on it. I wouldn't do that. It's just everynow and then; these things are fine. Grains in general. You need to be carefulof refined flours, white flour, donuts, cookies, these sorts of foods. Every time I go to theairport and fly out, I see the donut stand and you see all the big large people sittingthere buying donuts with all these sugar toppings. That's crap. That's the sort of stuff youwant to avoid. Ice cream, refined carbohydrates, these sorts of foods. That's the sugars. Chocolatebars full of sugar, candy, confectionary,
How to Treat Leaky Gut Syndrome
Hello, my name is Troy GIles. I'm a of Chiropractic and today we're going to discuss something that's very, very important to yourhealth, which is called leaky gut syndrome, which basically means that your colon andyour digestive system is leaking and causing toxins to pass through it. So what I'm goingto refer to this picture here, if you'll notice, this represents the inside of your digestivesystem. Normally the cells and the walls of the digestive system are very tight. Theyare connected together. If you notice here, these fissures are very tight and there'sa good count of bacteria. Every one of these little flecks right here is representing abacteria. These little fingers that stick
up into the digestive system, into the smalland large intestine are called villi. These absorb nutrients into the system. Well whatcould happen by eating foods that aren't appropriate or take antibiotic therapy or so forth, itwill cause these good bacterias to die. Now that they're dead you now can start to openup and the colon and digestive system becomes leaky or hyperpermeable. That's a big word, but permeable means the ability for things to go through. If you notice here, that'snot very permeable, but if I move my fingers apart, more things can get through that system. So now we call this hyperpermeable or leaky gut, which means that these toxins right hereare able to pass through and in to the system.
The reason why it becomes leaky is becausewithout this good bacteria, funguses, parasites, bacterias, all of these things can penetrateinto that system and cause it to become more holy, if you will, leaky. So now these toxinscan pass through. Now I'm going to come over to this picture over here where this is twopictures. This is abnormal function. This is appropriate function. Normally, in a healthyintestine only a few toxins leak into the liver. The liver then takes phase I, turnsthese toxins into an intermediate and phase 2 it takes the intermediate and turns it intowater and ultimately to be excreted or gotten rid of out through the kidney, or throughthe feces. But when we have too much toxins
leaking through the colon, it becomes overloaded. Now the liver doesn't conjugate anymore and these fatsoluble toxins will be attractedto the fat stores and to the brain. So now you start to get more foggy headed. You startto get fat that you can't lose because it's full of toxin. Ultimately, these toxins canthen get into the lymph system that we talked about on previous tutorials, the lymphatics andhow they can block up and you become more like a swamp. All of this creates or is createdor started from the leaky gut syndrome. So coming back over to the picture here now,the idea when we work with leaky gut syndrome is to remove these layers of infection. Getrid of the fungus, the parasites, the bacteria.
Give you nutrients that will support and createa strong colon, strong digestive system, tight. Reinoculate the bowel with good bacteria.Support the villi, so that they can regrow and so they can absorb the nutrients. Thenreestablish and give you good digestive enzymes so that the food that you do eat your breakingit down into small enough particles to actually be absorbed. This is vital. So what we doduring our examination is we determine if you have leaky gut syndrome. If you do, physiologicallyhow your body functions, that's where we start, by healing the colon and getting it to becometight again, so it doesn't leak those toxins through. So come on in for a scan. It's amazingthe Asyra scan we talked about earlier, see
the Asyra tutorial as well. This will let usknow how well the integrity is of your colon. So come on in and get a scan and we'll seewhat's going on. So until we talk next time, have an awesome day.
What Are the Best Probiotics
okay I kinda piggybacking off of some ofthe last tutorials where we do mention probiotics the microbiome and some ofthese other things people ask what are the best probioticsé How doI get a good probiotic in my dieté How do I get my get my gut healthy andrestored We get a lot of different variations of thesequestions and so.excellent question really, really, excellent question because gut health is tied to every other aspectof health. If we are not getting good food in, in that gut
even if you get good food in but your gutis not functioning properly if it's not a healthy functioning microbiome down there to beable to break down the food again so what if you can get thenutrients out of your food into your body it's not really gonna do for you what youthink and hope it's doing so we want to make sure that the gut is healthy.First step, get the garbage out. Second Step, make sure the good foods arecoming in.
But so that those good foodscan digest we want a good healthy you knowmicrobiome down there all these bacteria we are more bacteria than we are human cells bynumber and so it's really important to get that in. And if you had antibiotics you know especially if you've had them alot you killed off a lot of these beneficial bacteria and really doneyourself some harm. And so the way can repopulate
and recolonize the gut is to get somegood quality stuff in. Some of my favorites are things like kimchi and sauerkrautand the Japanese tsukemono, the Japanese pickles thesetraditional pickled foods. Now I'm not talking about the pasteurizedprocessed stuff that you get at the store that's already been made ina factory and then they cook it and kill all the bacteria
I'm talking about the old world way ofmaking these fermented products. These are so full of probiotics that arebeneficial to your health, it's just amazing. So if you compare it by weight let's say yogurt, a good Greek yogurt thathas probiotics. Not a bad thing but if you compare by weight and by numberof probiotics and bacteria that are
in that you get sometimes as much as ahundred thousand times more of these beneficial bacteria in a kimchee as compared to your Greek yogurt. It's somuch more potent in fact that that it's almost crazy not to includethese things in your diet. There's a lot of great resources on the Internet, YouTubeand different things that show you how to make these things if you're so inclined. If youreally want to get into it and make
